At the European Workshop on Atmospheric Dust in Larnaca, Cyprus, researcher Hugues Brenot from BIRA presented some of the most recent results from the KAIROS project, highlighting the importance of monitoring atmospheric dust events and their impacts.
The discussions were especially relevant in the context of the intense African dust storm that recently affected Greece and Cyprus, disrupting flights and significantly reducing air quality across the region. Such events underline the need for reliable monitoring and forecasting capabilities for hazardous dust clouds.
KAIROS contributes to this effort by advancing atmospheric observation and data-based analysis tools that help improve our understanding of dust transport and its environmental and societal impacts.
A great opportunity to exchange with the atmospheric science community and share ongoing progress in Earth observation and dust monitoring research.
